Course Content

Our courses will support you to develop your skills in English language to help you in everyday life and work.
Choose one or more of our specific accredited courses in reading, writing or speaking and listening.
Through these, you will gain knowledge and understanding of English grammar, vocabulary, spelling and pronunciation. You will become more confident communicating in both spoken and written English and you will develop your skills in understanding a range of written texts in English.
These courses run with specfic dates and can be attended alongside our non accredited courses. Fees may apply.

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over, whose first language is not English. You will need to provide ID (such as a passport),your visa, a National Insurance number and we will need to ask you about your residency in the UK. You must have either pre-settled or settled status and habe been resident in England for the last 3 years.

We will ask you to provide evidence of qualifications you have achieved. If you cannot provide the evidence, we will ask you to undertake an initial assessment to ensure that you are at the right level.

Please bring a notepad, pen or pencil.
This course is online using Zoom. You will need access to the internet. Your teacher will contact you on a weekly basis through Zoom, email and our Virtual Learning Environment and you will have the opportunity to contribute to group discussions across the County. You will be given tasks to complete at each session and instructions and online demonstrations.

Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course and you may take a City and Guilds exam.

A City and Guild’s Certificate in Skills for Life ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), at the appropriate level – Entry 1, Entry 2, or Entry 3. You will either take Reading, Writing or Speaking & Listening, each course will focus on one exam.

If you are not ready to take an exam the course will develop your skills for the next accredited course and you will receive an ALSS certificate of achievement on successful completion of this course.

On successful completion of this course you could continue onto another accredited ESOL course and take a City and Guilds Skills for Life exam in Reading, Writing or Speaking & Listening at an appropriate level.

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2024)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,000
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
