Course Content

This course will teach you how to develop your existing skills and build confidence in using the sewing machine. It will teach you techniques and skills with which you can make small sewn projects using upcycled and recycled materials that could be gifted or sold. Projects will incorporate techniques such as sewing zips, binding, button-holes and adding linings to projects. This course is suitable for learners who are comfortable to use the sewing machine and have completed a beginners’ course.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

This course will be delivered face to face. Basic sewing equipment and materials will be provided. However, if you would like to bring in your own fabrics or fat quarters, threads and embellishments, this will allow more freedom to develop your individual style.

Verbal and/or written feedback will be provided throughout this course.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.
