If you are new to distance learning on Equal with adult learning at North Yorkshire, you will need to attend our introduction to distance learning course.
This is a 2 hour session over 3 weeks in which you will learn about the processes and systems to complete one of our distance learning courses.
All businesses need good leaders in order to be successful, and an effective team leader will make sure that their team is happy and motivated within the workplace. This course will develop and improve your practical skills in order to become a successful team leader and improve the morale within a workplace. So, whether you are hoping to progress to a team-leading role in the future or want more knowledge about how to progress in a current position, this qualification is the perfect place for you to start. This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to gain further skills to develop their careers and progress in the workplace. It is suitable for anyone who is new to a team-leading role, or those who are hoping to become a team leader as they advance their careers.
This course is split into eight manageable units:
• Unit 1: Principles of team leading
• Unit 2: Understand business
• Unit 3: Understand how to communicate work-related information
• Unit 4: Understand how to manage performance and conflict in the workplace
• Unit 5: Principles of equality and diversity in the workplace
• Unit 6: Understand how to develop working relationships with colleagues
• Unit 7: Understand health and safety procedures in the workplace
• Unit 8: Understand how to develop and deliver a presentation.

Our ‘Distance’ courses allow you to learn remotely without attending lessons in a classroom, which means you can study at your own pace, in your own home at a time that suits you with the freedom to revisit areas of the course as little or as much as you like. You will have the support of a specialist teacher who will mentor you during the course.

If you are new to distance learning on Equal with adult learning at North Yorkshire, you will need to attend our introduction to distance learning course.
This is a 2 hour session over 3 weeks in which you will learn about the processes and systems to complete one of our distance learning courses. You will have an induction into Equal and teams educator and learn key skills to get you ready to learn online.

You must be over 19 years of age as of 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live, and we will check that at the enrolment stage. We may contact you for further information or refer you to an alternative provision. You must have a good basic understanding of English, Maths and IT. You will be asked to complete a short assessment prior to this course starting to ensure it is right for you.


This course will be completed online; you will need access to a laptop or tablet with regular access to the internet and an email account. Once an individual start and end date has been agreed in writing you will receive a login for our learning platform where your resources will be stored, this will allow you to access them whenever you choose to study.


You will be allocated a specialist teacher who will support you with your learning. Support will be offered to you remotely via Microsoft Teams or email. You will receive regular developmental feedback from your teacher. Your assessments will be completed online and then reviewed by your teacher and our quality team.


Once all units have been completed and assessed, you will achieve a Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Team Leading.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
