Course Content

If you are new to distance learning on Equal with adult learning at North Yorkshire, you will need to attend our introduction to distance learning course.
This is a 2 hour session over 3 weeks in which you will learn about the processes and systems to complete one of our distance learning courses. You will have an induction into Equal and teams educator and learn key skills to get you ready to learn online.

This qualification develops learners’ knowledge and understanding of information, advice, and guidance, and how these are applied in their working context.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as of 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live, and we will check that at the enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision. No previous experience is required. Basic IT skills are essential.


Notepad, pen or pencil and a folder to keep your work in. You will need access to a PC for the electronic Portfolio.


You will complete your assignments online which will be assessed by your teacher before going through our quality processes. You will receive regular developmental feedback from your teacher throughout the course.


TQUK Level 2 Certificate in information, advice, or guidance. (RQF)

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.


Several short courses relating to your role including the use of spreadsheets, Microsoft Teams, RARPA, and effective learner feedback.

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2024)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,000
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
