Course Content

This is a 12-week course, which is delivered either face to face or online (hybrid). The course is the NCFE/CACHE accredited Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings. The course aims to develop learners’ knowledge and awareness of health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings. This qualification provides pathways into the sector for anyone considering a career in health and/or social care. It will not confirm competence in a job role but will provide an opportunity for learners to develop knowledge about the wider health and social care sector before they decide whether working in the sector is for them and gain information to make decisions about career progression.

The course will help you to:
The Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings aims to develop learners’ knowledge and awareness of health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings. It is aimed at learners who wish to develop an understanding of the similarities and differences between these settings.



To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.


You may wish to bring a notepad and pen for taking notes and a folder to store notes and handouts.


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course.


You will achieve an accredited award in Level 1 Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings. Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life, or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.


The Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings allows for progression to the Level 1 Certificate in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings.

There will be an opportunity for you to meet with the Training and Services Manager – Wendy who will discuss further training options and health care jobs which are available in North Yorkshire Council.


There are written assignments in this course which require a good level of written English.
