Have you ever wanted to do more with food but don't know where to start - this taster course will help you learn the basics and have Fun with Food!!!. It is a hands-on cooking experience, and you will be learning a range of cookery skills.

The recipes will use affordable everyday ingredients that will make your money go further including time and fuel saving methods.

Dietary requirements will be taken into consideration so please advise prior to the course if you have any dietary needs including allergies.


To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact your for further information or refer you to alternative provision. No previous experience is required,

To take part in this free course you will need to enrol before the session either online or face to face with a member of our team.

You will be provided with an apron and all the ingredients for the session.

At the end of the session, you can either eat the food you have prepared, or take it home, along with recipes for you to make in the future. Please bring a food container with you to take your prepared food home.

A notepad and pen/ pencil may be helpful to take notes during the session


Your teacher will give verbal feedback throughout the course.


You will receive an ALSS certificate of achievement on successful completion of this course.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.

Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

On completion of this course, your teacher will tell you about other courses available.

You may wish to progress to the level 2 Food Safety qualification.

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2024)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,000
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
