Course Content

This course will provide a Skillsfirst accredited qualification for those who are new to bookkeeping, wish to go self-employed or retrain for an accounting/bookkeeping role looking for a computerised accounting qualification.

By the end of the course using a Sage Cloud accounting package students will be able to:
• Enter data into a computerised accounting package
• Record customer and supplier invoices and credit notes
• Process payments received from customers and made to suppliers
• Correct transaction errors
• Carry out a bank reconciliation
• Prepare and produce financial documents to be sent to credit customers
• Maintain the petty cash account
• Produce reports using selection criteria and parameters

Using a manual system learners will be able to;
• Understand single entry book-keeping

• Know the general principles of VAT
• Understand what is meant by both cash and credit transactions
• Understand how to process information in the books of prime entry


To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.
You should be working at level 1 in maths, English and ICT.You will also need to have completed the mandatory Introduction to Sage level 1 course.



You will need access to a calculator, laptop or computer & email. A smartphone or tablet is not suitable.


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course. You will complete online practice assessments during the course and 2 assessments which are taken at home.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.
