Course Content

Do you volunteer or do a job that involves giving information, advice and guidance (IAG) to others? Or perhaps you’re looking to do so? If so, North Yorkshire Adult Learning can offer you FREE training. Over four sessions of 2 hours each you’ll learn about career decision making, explore sources of information on learning and work opportunities, meet CiCi the Careers Chatbot, get a FREE tablet device and receive a £20 shopping voucher as a thank you for your valuable work as an IAG Champion.


This course is only offered to participants of the IAG Champions Programme who work or volunterr at Disability Action, Harrogate.

You should be a volunteer or have a job that involves giving information, advice and guidance to others, or looking to take on a volunteer role or a job that involves giving IAG.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.


You will need access to the internet and to an internet enabled device that allows you to make video calls.


You will be given verbal and written feedback by your tutor throughout the course.


You will gain an Entry Level 3 Award in Career Planning and Personal Development. By the end of the course you will have produced your own Career Action Plan, and will have developed valuable transferable skills including decision making, problem solving, networking and research skills.
Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.


You will have the opportunity to progress to the Level 2 Certificate in Information Advice and Guidance. There will also be a wide range of other courses available to you. You will have the chance to explore these further with a member of our IAG team.


The Information Advice and Guidance Champions programme is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and delivered by North Yorkshire Council.

Helping you financially

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2024)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,000
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
