Course Content

This is an 8-week accredited distance learning course for those who wish to gain a Sage Accounts qualification at a time that suits them.
This course uses Sage Cloud accounting software to produce invoices, record payments & receipts, & produce a set of accounts.

The course will help you to:
Use Sage Cloud accounting to:
• Enter data into a computerised accounting package
• Record customer and supplier invoices and credit notes
• Process payments received from customers and made to suppliers
• Correct transaction errors
• Complete a bank reconciliation
• Prepare and produce financial documents
• Maintain the petty cash account
• Produce reports using selection criteria and parameters

Using a manual system:
• Understand single entry book-keeping
• Know the general principles of VAT
• Understand what is meant by both cash and credit transactions
• Understand how to process information in the books of prime entry


To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

Basic IT skills are essential. You should be able to access the internet, download, open and save files, and upload files.
You should be working at level 1 in maths, English and ICT. You will also need to have completed the mandatory 2 weeks Introduction to Sage level 1 course.



You will need a computer or laptop with internet and email. A smartphone is not suitable. You will also need a pen, paper and calculator.


You will complete a range of exercises which you will self-mark against the model answers. Other exercises are marked by the web-portal that you will use to complete the course. There will be 2 timed assessments that must be successfully passed in order to gain the qualification.


You will achieve an understanding of Sage software and courses you can take to progress your skills.

Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping


You must also attend the relevant Introduction to sessions for the course chosen.
