Course Content

This course gives you the opportunity to discover and develop your own individual creative style. You will learn through tutor led demonstrations and practical activities, in a calming and respectful environment. There will be opportunities to explore a range of materials and methods, with the use of mindfulness and relaxation techniques. This course is suitable for beginners who want to develop basic sewing skills and processes. Or, if you have previous experience in this subject, you will be able to develop these skills and learn new techniques.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

This course will be delivered face to face. Basic sewing equipment and materials will be provided. However, if you would like to bring in your own fabrics or fat quarters, threads and embellishments, this will allow more freedom to develop your individual style.

Your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your project throughout the course, with guidance on how to improve and continue to develop your skills.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

You could move onto further Textiles or sewing courses, or the accredited course in creative textiles. There is also a range of sewing courses to develop creative ideas.
