Build Your Skills (for employment) – 4 weekly sessions – Fridays 14/2/25 – 07/03/25, 12:30 – 14:30 – Skipton Library
This course is delivered through a series of short introductions to the following topics: Thinking skills, Planning and time management, self-assessment, target setting and personal development planning. It also includes interview techniques and an introduction to a basic office skills including MS Word, MS Spreadsheets, Teams meetings and PowerPoint presentations.


To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2024 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact your for further information or refer you to alternative provision. No previous experience is required.


To take part in this free course you will need to enrol before the session either online or face to face with a member of our team.


Your teacher will give feedback throughout the course, through demonstration and observation.



Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.

Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

On completion of this course you will be offered a number of learning opportunities and pathway relevant to your individual requirements. A range of Gateway qualifications will be offered as a progression and/or links to alternative curriculum offers.


Bring some photographic ID if you are enrolling on the day.

This course is open to all who would like to attend and gain the skills to get that job!

You will gain wide range of transferable skills that will help you enter the employment market and give you the confidence to apply for a job of your choice.

Helping you financially

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2024)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,000
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
