Course Content

This course is ideal for beginners who are interested in exploring the world of coding and software development. It covers essential topics such as basic syntax, control structures, data types, and debugging, ensuring that learners gain a solid grasp of programming fundamentals. By the end of the course, participants will be able to write simple programs and understand the logic behind more complex coding tasks.

Prospective learners can expect to gain:

Basic programming skills: Understanding and writing code in a chosen programming language.

Problem-solving techniques: Developing logical thinking and problem-solving skills through coding exercises.

Control structures: Learning about loops, conditionals, and functions to control the flow of programs.

Data management: Handling different data types and structures effectively.

Debugging skills: Identifying and fixing errors in code to ensure programs run smoothly.



To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as of 31st August 2025 and not already have a qualification in Digital Skills at Level 2. Further eligibility may be linked to where you live, and we will check that at the enrolment stage; we may contact you for further information or refer you to an alternative provision.


If you are keen to take notes, please have a notepad, pen or pencil to hand. You will a computer or laptop to be able to join the course online and participate in the portfolio activities.


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course. 


You will receive a certificate for the Level 1 award in Introduction to Programming.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.


Your teacher will discuss progression options, and these will include; Digital Functional Skills, Cyber Security or other digital courses.  Your teacher will advise you of the suitability and availability of these.

  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,000
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
