Course Content

This is a 1 week non-accredited online course for those interested in progressing onto the accounting courses.

The course will help you to:

Recognise columns, rows and cell references

Complete simple formula such as add, divide, multiply, sum and minus

Use excel to create a spreadsheet to record income and expenditure

Assess your current English, maths and ICT, and skills needed for accountancy level 1 and 2 qualifications

Discuss possible progression options onto Sage and other accounting courses. '

Open Entry Requirements


To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2025 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.


Open What Will I Need?


This session will be online – You will need a computer or laptop with a spreadsheet software. A mobile phone is not suitable.

Your teacher will give verbal feedback throughout the course.

Open What Will I Achieve?


You will produce a simple analysed spreadsheet for income and expenditure in order to calculate surplus or deficit funds.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

Open Is there anything else I need to know?


If you choose to progress, you must hold a maths and English qualification at level 1 and have basic ICT skills in order to progress onto a level 1 course.

You must hold a maths and English qualification at level 2 and be working at level 2 in ICT in order to progress onto a level 2 course.


You must also attend the relevant Introduction to sessions for the course chosen.

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2025)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,750
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
