Has spending time in the kitchen preparing meals become a chore! Forgotten those cooking skills you learnt at school or were you the era when cookery or home economics was not taught in our general curriculum.
We are now offering the next stage of Developing Essential Cookery Skills with a hands-on cooking experience where learners create nutritious, healthy food for you and your family, guided by our qualified cookery teacher. This course is designed to further help you develop the basic skills you need to prepare and cook everyday meals and enjoy preparing food once again and discovering a new talent.
The course is a supportive and practical way of building your confidence to produce recipes for beginners and then progress onto more advance cooking, with new skills been shown all the time.
The course will further expand your knowledge and practical skills such as knife skills, recipe methods, preparation techniques, food safety as well as teach planning, time management, preparation and budgeting skills.

During the course, you will explore the different stages of making recipes for cooking or baking
• Planning, shopping and budgeting
• Preparation of ingredients using specific equipment and skills including Food Safety and storage
• Dietary requirements, allergies affecting what we cook for the family
• Sustainable ways of cooking, environmental issues with regards to waste and production of food.
• How to maintain a healthy diet


Dietary requirements will be taken into consideration so please advise prior to the course if you have any dietary needs including allergies.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2025 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact your for further information or refer you to alternative provision. No previous experience is required,


To take part in this free course you will need to enrol before the session either online or face to face with a member of our team.
You may like to have a notebook and pen to create reference notes. All other resources will be provided.

You will be provided with an apron and all the ingredients for the session.
At the end of the session, you can either eat the food you have prepared, or take it home, along with recipes for you to make in the future. Please bring a food container with you to take your prepared food home.

You will receive a good understanding of the basics cookery and knowledge of how to prepare a variety of meals. You will be given the tools and skills to progress and an opportunity to further learning or employment within this sector area.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.

Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
