Course Content

The Introduction to Bookkeeping for ESOL learners course is specially designed for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners. This course provides a friendly and accessible way to understand the basics of bookkeeping terminology and use simple accounting tools. You’ll learn key vocabulary used in finance and build confidence using numbers in English. No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to learn and grow!

By the end of the course students will be able to:
• Understand a range of accounting terminology
• Use basic excel calculations
• Have a knowledge of some the UK accounting qualifications



To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2025 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

You should be working at Entry level 3 in maths and English.



You will need access to a laptop or computer and email.
This course will be delivered online using Teams. You will need access to the internet and an email account. Your teacher will contact you via Teams/email, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to group discussions. You will be given tasks to complete at each session and online demonstrations. You will also need a pen, paper and calculator.




Practice questions and assessments are completed at home and in class.



You will learn some basic terminology required in a bookkeeping environment and will complete a simple bookkeeping task.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
