Course Content

The course aims to increase learners' confidence and fluency in using digital technologies, enabling them to participate safely and effectively in digital and online activities. During the course you will cover:
• Internet searches and selecting reliable information
• Organising files and folders
• Using email and online messages for various contexts
• Completing online forms
• Being safe and responsible online
• Understanding data protection rights
• Minimising health risks from device and internet use
During the course you will be given helpful step-by-step guidance from our specialist teacher.

Open Entry Requirements


To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as of 31st August 2025 and not already have a qualification in Digital Skills at Level 1. Further eligibility may be linked to where you live, and we will check that at enrolment stage; we may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

Open What Will I Need?


You may wish to have a notepad and pen for taking notes and a folder to store notes and handouts.

Open Assessment Methods


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course. There is an online assessment at the end of the course.


Open What Will I Achieve?


You will receive the appropriate Digital Functional Skills Qualification on successful completion of this course.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

Open Progression


You will be able to develop your digital skills further by taking additional courses. For example, you may like to learn more about using Microsoft Office applications, such as Word and Spreadsheets, or about online safety and cybersecurity. Your teacher will discuss progression options with you.

You may like to bring a drink with you to have away from the computer and electrical equipment.

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2025)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,750
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
