Summer holiday family learning: The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch – Family Learning Craft Session

This engaging family learning session invites young children and their parents or carers to explore the much loved story The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch by Ronda and David Armitage through a series of creative, story linked craft activities. The course encourages children to deepen their understanding of the text while developing fine motor skills, language, creativity, and confidence in retelling the story.
Families will work together across four themed craft stations, each designed to bring the seaside setting and the humorous events of the story to life.

Open Entry Requirements


To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2025 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.
All children must attend the session with an adult and please ensure to book your place.

The opportunity to work with your children to complete a crafts project.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.

Open Progression


Other personal and professional development courses will be available to you including a range of accredited courses such as further Family Learning courses to develop skills and confidence further; Level 1 Award in preparing to work in schools, Level 2 Supporting work in schools and colleges; Level 1 & Level 2 Maths or English. Your teacher will discuss these with you.

Open Is there anything else I need to know?


Parents/carers are required to stay with their children throughout the session and work alongside them to create their craft project.

Helping you financially

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2025)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,750
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
