Course Content

This is a 2-week non-accredited introduction to AAT Level , which needs to be completed prior to progressing to the AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping

This course covers:
• An overview of the AAT suite of qualifications
• English, maths and ICT skills needed for AAT level 1 and 2 qualifications
• Assessing your current English, maths and ICT qualifications
• How will I learn?
• What are the possible progression options?
• Is this the right course for me?
• Assessment format
• Time commitments needed, attendance and planned end dates
You will also complete a variety of bookkeeping tasks



To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2025 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.
Basic IT skills are essential.
You should hold qualifications at level 1 in maths and English.

Please be aware, if you progress onto an accredited course, you will have to attend Ripon or Scarborough venues for exams.


Face to face sessions – You will need a pen, paper and calculator.
Online sessions - You will need a pen, paper and calculator. You will also need access to a computer or laptop with internet and email.



You will get feedback through the session.


You will develop skills and knowledge to manage books effectively. It includes manually completing a cash book, balancing an account & calculating VAT.



You will have the opportunity to meet with one of our team who will be able to offer advice on the variety of learning opportunities.

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2025)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,750
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
