Course Content

This course will provide an AAT accredited qualification for those who are new to bookkeeping or those in an accounting role looking for an accounting qualification.

By the end of the course using manual book keeping students will be able to:
• Understand & produce a range of accounting documents
• Process supplier and other payments
• Process customer documents and other receipts
• Produce a cash and petty cash book
• Use basic excel calculations

The content is covered in 1 module & an online assessment is taken at the end of the course.



To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2025 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.

You should be working at level 1 in maths, English and ICT.

You will also need to have completed the mandatory 2 weeks Introduction to Bookkeeping Level 1 course.




You will need access to a laptop or computer & email outside of the class session. A phone or tablet is not suitable.
This course will be delivered face to face. You will have the opportunity to contribute to group discussions & be given tasks to complete at each session. You will also need a pen, paper & calculator.



Practice questions and assessments are completed at home and in class.

The AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping consists of one AAT computer assessed modules. Currently we have access to assessment centres in Ripon, Northallerton & Scarborough.



Upon successful completion of the AAT assessment you will achieve the AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping.

You may wish to progress to AAT Level 2.
Possible jobs after completing this level 1 qualification are:
Accounts Assistant, Accounts Payable Clerk, Trainee Accounts Technician.

You must hold a maths and English qualification at level 1 and be working at level 1 in ICT. You must also attend the two Introduction to Bookkeeping level 1 sessions.
