Course Content

The aim of the course is to develop some basic skills in Excel. By the end of the course, you should be able to:
• create a budget using spreadsheet software
• add data to a spreadsheet
• edit data in a spreadsheet
• apply calculation techniques (formulas and Functions)
• save and retrieve the spreadsheet
• print a spreadsheet
• demonstrate safe working practice
• prepare for the Excel Transferrable Skills course following on from this introductory course.


To be eligible for a free funded course you must be over 19 years of age as of 31st August 2025 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live, and we will check that at the enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.
It is suitable for those who have a basic understanding of ICT and Excel.



You will need to have regular access to a Windows 10 or Windows 11 personal computer with Microsoft Office installed (2016 or newer), a working camera and microphone, access to the Internet and an email account to make the most of the online sessions. If you are keen to take notes, please have a notepad, pen or pencil to hand.


Your teacher will give verbal and written feedback throughout the course.


This course will prepare you for progression to an Excel Transferable Skills course.

Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.


Your teacher will discuss progression options, and these will include the Excel transferable skills course, Digital Functional skills qualifications, and Level 1 award in Cybersecurity.
