Course Content

This is a creative, hands on and inspiring course for anyone who would like to try designing and making items for a beautiful summer celebration or to simply decorate your home over the summer months.

This course will teach you the skills to be able to tailor make items using the sewing machine such as custom bunting, table runners and other decorations of your choice. You will learn how to recycle and upcycle items from your home including using natural materials, recycled objects and garments no longer worn into beautiful summer themed decorations. You will be taught in a fun and relaxed environment alongside other like-minded learners.

The course is suitable for learners who have but some basic knowledge of using the sewing machine would be an advantage. It is also suitable for those with more experience in sewing as there will be ample opportunity to stretch your skills further by developing more complex designs and range of techniques. The course is free of charge if you have not learnt sewing skills with Adult Learning - however all are welcome and a charge of £40 will be applicable if are a returning learner.

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as at 31st August 2025 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live and we will check that at enrolment stage and may contact you for further information or refer you to alternative provision.



All equipment will be provided. However, you may wish to bring fabrics of your choice

This is a hands on practical course and your teacher will be on hand for guidance and support


You will make beautiful upcycled items for you home/garden and future celebrations
Throughout your time learning with us, you will also have developed a whole range of skills that can be transferred from your course to a working environment, your home life or your own personal development.
Skills such as time management, organisation, research skills, networking and presenting ideas are all part of your learning journey along with decision making, problem solving and overcoming obstacles. All these skills will help you to become a confident, self-motivated person and will assist you on your chosen pathway.

Helping you financially

  • English, maths and computing courses (up to level 1) are FREE subject to eligibility (adult learners aged 19+ at 31st August 2025)
  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,750
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
