Course Content
The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning has been designed to provide you with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour and communication and professional relationships. It’s aimed at individuals who are working in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.

Open Entry Requirements

To be eligible for funding for courses you must be over 19 years of age as of 31st August 2023 and not be an apprentice, further eligibility may be linked to where you live, and we will check that at the enrolment stage. We may contact you for further information or refer you to an alternative provision. This qualification is aimed at learners working in roles that offer specialist support for pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges. You will need to show competence in both skills and knowledge, you will need to be working or be on a practical placement during the taught programme of study in a learning environment for a minimum of 100 hours.
Learners must complete the introduction to working in schools course before starting this qualification.

You will require an email account and basic IT skills. You may wish to bring a pen and paper to the sessions for notetaking.

This qualification is internally assessed, where you will also be observed by your teacher while you are on your practical placement.

Open Progression


Once successfully completed you could progress to employment within an educational setting or progress further with your qualifications to obtain an NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning.

  • Reduced course fees for non-qualification courses if you receive a qualifying benefit.
  • Qualification courses at Level 2 or below are FREE if your income is below £25,000
  • Discretionary Learner Support funding relating to cover fees, books etc (qualifications only) T&C apply.
  • Pay for your course in instalments via direct debit (over £100), ask for details.
  • 19+ Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 courses and above – no repayments until you earn over £25,000
